RANSCRIPTION OF CIVIL RECORDS
The transcription consists of registering with the civil status service of the consulate, civil status certificates (birth, marriage and death) drawn up by the French town halls. This is a mandatory preliminary step for obtaining Algerian documents (consular card, passports, CNI, 12 S, etc.).
Only the acts of persons whose Algerian nationality is established may be transcribed in the consular registers of civil status.
The transcription depends on the place of birth, death or marriage and not on the place of residence (see home page, tab "the consulate" to consult the departments covered by our consular district).
The Birth Transcript
It is carried out on the basis of:
- Two (02) complete copies of the birth certificate (originals less than three months old).
- From the family book.
- An Algerian identity document or certificate of nationality or, failing that, the full copy of the birth certificate of the father and grandfather born in Algeria.
- If it is a minor (his presence is not required), an Algerian identity document from one of the two parents.
Transcription of children's birth certificates following a change in the marital status of the parents or one of them.
The transcription of the birth certificates of children whose one or both parents have changed their marital status following naturalization can only be done on the basis of an order from the court of Sidi M'Hamed in Algiers. .
This step is necessary to avoid the incompatibility between the civil status of the child and that of the father or the mother born (s) in Algeria and the recourse to the procedures of justice in matter in particular of establishment of documents civil status and inheritance.
Marriage transcription
It is carried out on the basis of:
- Two complete copies of the marriage certificate (originals).
- From the family book.
- An Algerian identity document.
The transcription of the marriage certificate between an Algerian national and a non-Muslim is inadmissible except in the case of the husband's conversion to the Muslim religion. The transcription request file must include the conversion certificate issued by the authorized religious authority.
