Transfer of remains of deceased citizens

The body transfer authorization allows the repatriation, for burial purposes in Algeria, of a national who died in the consular district (Alpes-Martimes, Corsica and Principality of Monaco) and whose identity and Algerian nationality are confirmed .

The transfer of the body is carried out according to the following modalities:

     The funeral organization chosen by the family of the deceased takes the necessary steps and sends the file to the Consulate, to obtain authorization to transfer the body.

The body transfer file, filed by the funeral director, must include the following documents:

  •      The death certificate issued by the town hall of the place of death;
  •      The authorization for the final closing of the coffin issued by the town hall of the place of coffin;
  •      The death certificate;
  •      A medical certificate of non-contagion;
  •      The coffin report in an airtight coffin prepared by the funeral director;
  •      The authorization to transport the body issued by the prefecture of the place of coffin.

In the absence of family in France, the Consulate is empowered to take all the steps necessary for the repatriation of a deceased Algerian national in his consular district, when he holds a funded bank account.

The issuance of authorization to transfer the body of an unidentified Algerian person or a foreign national is subject to the prior agreement of the municipality of the place of burial in Algeria.
